WELCOME TO MSCMigration Support Centre The Vazhndhu Kattuvom Project has established a Migration Support Centre in the city to assist and provide guidance to individuals who have relocated from different parts of Tamil Nadu. The term ‘migrant’ is applied to any individual who has moved away from their habitual place of residence for a particular reason, either voluntarily or involuntarily. Here, we specifically focus on the lives of those who migrate from rural areas to urban centers in search of employment. By delving into their experiences, we explore the numerous challenges they encounter when transitioning to a city, which have been further exacerbated by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Migration Support Centre is conceptualized as a walk-in resource centre for the rural migrants, who have moved from their native place in search of better employment prospects. MSC will be a place where migrants from Tamil Nadu can walk in and address all their requirements. When a worker finds a job in another town or city, he/ she can register on the MSC portal (https://ydc.tnrtp.org/) with relevant details.
Centre Report (as on 04.04.2025)
To address the question of how to improve this transition even in small ways, we examine the concept of 'support centers' as a potential solution. The process of rural-to-urban migration is far from simple, as individuals leave behind their homes and social connections in pursuit of a better life in the city, while simultaneously preparing themselves for a new way of living. Despite their expectations, the challenges migrants face in the city often surpass what they initially anticipate. For further details, please check https://www.vkp-tnrtp.org
